Hoi An Trails, Vietnam - Oct 2008, originally uploaded by khasan.

Love Hoi An Trails. It has a huge pool and the food and service are great. An extensive and delicious breakfast buffet was included in my $60 USD/night Tamarind" room was large, clean and well appointed with a pool view. Ly and Lan are most helpful at reception, and Linh is the dining room is a sweetheart. I like that the hotel is situated in a quiet spot on the beach road, Cua Dai, 1 km from the lovely beach, that you can push bike to, and 3 km from the quaint town. Across the street is Lan's mini grocery where you can rent a push bike for 10,000 d if the hotel runs out, and Lan can also take you to town via moto for 20,000 d. My best meals in Vietnam were in Hoi An: Mango Rooms features pan Asian cuisine with a spicy latin twist. The street food was fantastic: cau lau, a local noodle salad dish, with the best version available in the market; Hoi An pancake and crispy Banh My sandwiches with their contrasting flavors.

21st October, 2009. 7:18 am. To Hanoi - my hometown

When you go “home” only a part of you is alive because it’s hard to explain your experiences to others; it’s always been so much easier for me to gloss over it. And I was exaggerating in my post; my Vietnamese isn’t that bad. I’ve forgotten a lot, but it comes back pretty fast when I visit. I do want to become fluent though, so if/when I move back, that’s definitely on the agenda.
